What Are Dental Crowns & Bridges?
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a damaged, weakened, or decayed tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance. Crowns are one of the most versatile restorations in dentistry. They’re used to protect a tooth after a root canal, repair a large crack or fracture, cover a severely worn tooth, or replace an old restoration that’s failing.
A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring a prosthetic tooth to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. It restores your ability to chew and speak properly, prevents surrounding teeth from shifting out of position, and fills the space with a result that looks and feels natural.
At Staley Dental Arts, Dr. Jensen uses high-quality porcelain and ceramic materials that are matched to the color of your existing teeth. Every crown and bridge is custom designed for a precise fit and a seamless blend with your smile. Most cases are completed in just two visits.
Benefits of Dental Crowns & Bridges
- Restores Full Function | Eat, speak, and bit with confidence again. Crowns and bridges bring damaged or missing teeth back to full strength.
- Natural Appearance | Custom-shaded porcelain blends seamlessly with your existing teeth so your restoration is virtually undetectable.
- Protects Weak Teeth | A crown holds a cracked, worn, or root canal treated tooth together and prevents further damage or breakage.
- Prevents Teeth From Shifting | A bridge fills the gap left by a missing tooth, keeping surrounding teeth from drifting out of alignment.
- Long-Lasting Results | With proper care, crowns and bridges typically last 10 to 15 years or longer.
- Preserves Your Jawbone | Replacing missing teeth with a bridge helps maintain stimulation to the bone and prevents the sunken appearance that comes with tooth loss.

What to Expect During Your Crown or Bridge
Getting a crown or bridge at Staley Dental Arts is a straightforward process that typically takes two visits.
Preperation
Dr. Jensen numbs the area and reshapes the tooth to make room for the crown. For a bridge, the teeth on either side of the gap are prepared the same way.
Impressions & Temporary
We take detailed impressions of your teeth and place a temporary crown or bridge to protect the area while your permanent restoration is being made.
Custom Fabrication
Your crown or bridge is crafted in a dental lab using porcelain or ceramic matched to the exact shade of your natural teeth.
Final Placement
At your second visit, Dr. Jensen removes the temporary, checks the fit and color of your permanent restoration, and cements it into place.

Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to the most common questions about dental care, treatment options, and what to expect before your appointment.
How long does it take to get a crown?
Most crowns require two visits. At the first appointment, Dr. Jensen prepares the tooth and places a temporary crown. Your permanent crown is fabricated by a dental lab and placed at your second visit, usually about two weeks later.
Does getting a crown hurt?
No. The tooth is completely numbed before any work begins. You may feel some mild sensitivity for a few days after the procedure, but most patients are comfortable throughout and return to their normal routine right away.
How long do crowns and bridges last?
With proper care, most crowns and bridges last 10 to 15 years or longer. Brushing, flossing, and keeping up with regular checkups are the best ways to extend their lifespan. Avoiding habits like chewing ice or grinding without a night guard helps too.
What's the difference between a crown and a bridge?
A crown covers and protects a single damaged tooth. A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring a prosthetic tooth to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. Dr. Jensen will recommend whichever option fits your situation best.
Will my crown look like a real tooth?
Yes. We use porcelain and ceramic materials that are custom matched to the shade, shape, and translucency of your natural teeth. Once it's placed, most people can't tell the difference between the crown and the teeth around it.
Does insurance cover crowns and bridges?
Most dental insurance plans cover a portion of crown and bridge treatment as a major restorative procedure. Our team will verify your benefits before your appointment so you know your estimated cost upfront. We also offer financing through CareCredit and HFD.
