If the issue needs follow-up care, we’ll build a plan before you leave so nothing falls through the cracks. Common Dental Emergencies We Treat
- Severe Toothaches | Sudden or persistent pain that won't go away often signals infection or decay that needs immediate care.
- Cracked or Broken Teeth | Whether it's a sports injury, a hard bite, or an accident, we'll assess the damage and repair the tooth the same day.
- Knocked-Out Teeth | Time matters. Place the tooth in milk and get to our office as fast as possible to give us the best chance of saving it.
- Lost Fillings or Crowns | A missing filling or crown leaves the tooth exposed. We'll replace or re-cement it before further damage occurs.
- Swelling or Abscess| Facial swelling or a bad taste in your mouth can signal an infection that needs treatment right away.
- Dental Trauma or Injury | Falls, hits to the face, or jaw injuries. We'll evaluate the damage and get you the treatment you need.
What to do in a Dental Emergency
The most important thing is to stay calm and call us right away at (816) 605-0034. We’ll talk you through what to do over the phone and get you scheduled for a same-day visit. For pain management while you’re on your way, over-the-counter ibuprofen and a cold compress on the outside of your cheek can help reduce swelling and discomfort.
If a tooth has been knocked out, pick it up by the crown and avoid touching the root. Rinse it gently with water if it’s dirty, but don’t scrub it. Try to place it back in the socket if you can. If not, keep it in a glass of milk or between your cheek and gum until you get to our office. The faster you get here, the better the odds of saving the tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to the most common questions about dental care, treatment options, and what to expect before your appointment.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe tooth pain, a cracked or knocked-out tooth, a lost filling or crown, swelling, bleeding that won't stop, or any injury to your mouth or jaw. When in doubt, call us. We'd rather see you and rule something out than have you wait and let it get worse.
Can you see me the same day?
Yes. We reserve time in our schedule specifically for emergency patients. Call us at (816) 605-0034 as soon as possible and we'll get you in the same day.
What should I do if a tooth gets knocked out?
Pick it up by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently with water if it's dirty but don't scrub it. Try to place it back in the socket if you can. If not, keep it in a glass of milk and get to our office as fast as possible. The sooner you get here, the better the chance of saving it.
What can I do for pain while I wait to be seen?
Take over-the-counter ibuprofen as directed and apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to help with swelling. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gums as it can burn the tissue. Call us and we'll talk you through what to do on your way in.
What if my emergency happens after hours?
Text us at 816-495-4073 and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. We'll help you manage the situation and get you scheduled first thing when the office opens.
Will my insurance cover emergency treatment?
Most dental insurance plans cover emergency exams and common treatments like fillings, crowns, and extractions. Our team will verify your benefits and let you know what to expect. We also offer financing through CareCredit and HFD if needed.
